He is a native of Abingdon, Virginia, and a graduate of Emory & Henry College in Emory, Virginia, and the Candler School of Theology at Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia.
Jonathan's wife Suzanne is also a native of Abingdon, and they have two children, Brett and Grace.
